Who am I?
First question and I’m already stuck. So I’ll stick with the basics for now. I’m Rae Reed, founder of OutLoud Magazine. With a journalism degree, literally no magazine experience, and immense passion for women’s issues, I’m on one hell of a journalistic journey.
What can you expect from GetLoudWithRae?
As with life, you can never truly know what to expect. I will, however, focus on the beautiful, inspirational people who make OutLoud Magazine possible, whether that includes my colleagues (also known as the family), or the amazing women I meet. Don’t worry, I refuse to only be cheeky and cute. You’ll also learn about the condescending folks (or some other word that starts with f and ends with ks), the misogynists, and the haters; but like Eleanor Roosevelt suggests, I’ll talk about bigger issues than people alone. I talk about mistakes, successes, experiences, change, passion, struggles, and more. I promise to be an open book. To be real. To be Rae.
Randomness
1. I don’t know how to accept compliments… or apologies.
2. I’m learning to love myself, even on days when I don’t feel like I should.
3. In my rearview are: men and women who helped shape me, places that move me, and experiences that drive me.
4. Words people would never use to describe me, but are totally true: queer. sassy. shy.
5. This is what a feminist looks like.
6. My closet is color-coded.
7. I love melodies that capture feelings, and lyrics that are poetic.
8. I journal, and mostly use my favorite purple pen to do so.
9. “Packing Light” is something I’m not very good at, but am working towards.
10. “Rae of Sunshine” seems to be a nickname people give me. It always makes me think of my mom.
11. Apples and peanut butter is possibly the best snack ever.
